Top 5 Best Duvet Covers of 2024 – A Buyer’s Guide

Choosing the right bedding & getting a good night's sleep relies on three key points: Comfort, Temperature control & Value for money.

Most people are likely sleeping in cotton, flannel, or polyester duvet cover which are a popular choice because of the price or lack of knowledge. We investigate some of the top bedding companies on the market in 2024 and find out how they're changing the sleep industry!

Bamboo Duvet Covers are a relatively new product that has started gaining popularity this year because of their superior benefits. The majority of bamboo bedding come with hefty price tags because of their quality, however, we discovered the company 'Cosy House Collection' that have been creating waves on social media and in the news with their high-quality bamboo bedding that comes with a ridiculously low price tag!

Doctors say that we get the deepest, healthiest sleep when our bodies are cool, comfortable, and able to breathe. There's nothing worse than a duvet cover that traps heat and hangs on to moisture. (Ahem: Night-sweats anyone?)

Finally – you’ll want a duvet cover that is hypoallergenic and antibacterial. We've found that cotton isn’t very good at being either of these things and tends to hold pollen, allergens, and bacteria until it’s washed! Unless your duvet cover is being washed daily, you’re likely suffering (from allergens) while you sleep and you just don’t know it.

It can be difficult to know which are the best Duvet Covers on the market. That's why Great Life Tips has compiled months of research about this emerging category. We’ll show you what to look for and what to avoid when picking your perfect Duvet Cover, and how it can help transform your sleep.

Benefits of extra sleep & rest:

Helps you maintain weight

  • Better energy control
  • Maintain correct hormone levels

Cognitive Health

  • Boosts Memory
  • Enhances Processing Speed

Cardiovascular Health

  • Aids Cardiovascular Function
  • Helps Maintain Normal Blood Flow

Stronger immune system

  • Bolsters Immune System
  • Helps to fight off illness &  infection

What You Need In The Perfect Duvet Cover

Taking all of the healthful attributes listed above into consideration, we've boiled down a list of four key characteristics you should always look for in a great duvet cover. Try to seek out all of these qualities:

Temperature Regulation

The problem with most Duvet Covers on the market is they are not very versatile in regards to temperature regulation and temperature changes that come with the seasons.

Flannel duvet covers can work great for the winter months, but they'll leave you overheated and sweaty the rest of the year..

The top cotton duvet covers can be breathable and cooling in the summer months, but won't help to regulate temperatures the rest of the year when you need them to.

Bamboo Duvet Covers are naturally temperature-regulating and wick away moisture allowing you to stay cool and dry year-round.

Softness & Comfort

The Best Duvet Covers are silky soft,  even softer than Egyptian cotton while offering a heap of additional features. Scientifically-backed, Bamboo Duvet Covers are more effective at moisture wicking, keeping you cool and dry through out the night for maximum comfort.

Hypoallergenic

Allergens such as dust mites and mold can thrive when paired with duvet covers that allow them to thrive causing endless nights of tossing and turning from symptoms like itchy throat, runny nose, and watery eyes. Luckily, bamboo duvet covers are hypoallergenic, breathable, and antimicrobial.

It is the combination of these features, working together, that raises their individual benefits exponentially.

Antibacterial

Traditional fabrics like cotton are a breeding ground for bacteria causing bad odors, stains, and even acne. Bamboo naturally has antibacterial properties. The combined benefits of bamboo allow your duvet cover to stay fresher, for longer (we found about 2x as long compared to traditional cotton)

What To Avoid when buying Duvet Covers

A High Thread Count Isn't Always Better

The higher the thread count, the better the duvet cover, right? Actually, no (We were shocked to discover this too!) Thread count is an incredibly out-dated method for measuring cotton sheets. It's actually considered to be an outdated form of measurement for gauging bedding quality, most people now measure sheets by GSM (Grams per square meter).

Higher thread count bedding also mean a tighter weave causing them to lose any benefit of cooling and breathing.

Chemicals

Many Duvet Covers are finished with chemicals that are harmful to your skin and body. Companies process their duvet covers with chemical finishes to stop shrinking, wrinkling, and pilling in the wash.  It's incredibly important to look for OEKO-TEX certifications when buying Duvet Covers.

Consumers often think they're safe with Cotton bedding, however, because of the way they're grown cotton is often sprayed with chemicals & pesticides that carry over into the final product. This is a recipe for disaster when you're sleeping in this bedding for 7-8 hours a day.

The best way to ensure your duvet cover is free of chemicals and/or harmful substances is to buy from one of the reputable brands carrying a OEKO-TEX Certifications OEKO-TEX certifies that the product has been tested for harmful substances and that they are, therefore, harmless for human health and safe to use.

The Bottom Line

California Design Den was our favorite cotton set we reviewed. However, we were definitely missing some of the features we had grown to love with the Cosy House Bamboo Duvet Cover (Temperature Regulation).

California Design Den does have a variety of sizes and colors to choose from that are OEKO-TEX certified, however, customers have noted that they wrinkle easily and don’t possess any temperature regulating properties.

Their return policy is also only 30 days, and they do not feature any live customer support options

The Bottom Line

The French Linen Duvet Cover Set by Simple & Opulence is very soft and features multiple color and size options.

Caution: This set from Simple & Opulence starts around $79.99, and while they are soft, it is hard to say that they are better than the Cosy House or California Design Den's Duvet Covers. Some reviewers also state they have had issues with the material being very thin, some describing them as rough, though this may be an isolated issue.

Simple & Opulence duvet cover sets are a great option for those not worried about a budget.

  • Possible Shrinkage
  • Not Temperature Regulating
The Bottom Line

Bedsure’s cotton duvet covers are pretty soft, however, they don't seem to cool as well as the bamboo duvet covers we've tested.

Bedsure has created a great duvet cover, we just wish there were more than 4 colors offered, as other sets offer much better color and pattern options.

Many customers love the softness of the waffle weave, though some have noted that they’ve experienced shrinkage during the washing process.

PROS

CONS

  • Not A Full Set

  • Not Temperature Regulating
The Bottom Line

Brooklinen's Luxe Duvet Cover is very smooth and is a great pick if you're leaning towards a cotton duvet cover.

However, as of writing, the duvet cover is currently selling for $155. Keep in mind, unlike Cosy House Collection, Brooklinen is only offering the duvet cover itself for this price and not a complete set with pillow sham covers. This may not be the best option for those who are not so budget-minded.

We were however happy it's OEKO-TEX certified and offers a Lifetime Warranty, earning it a spot on this list, Though we'd still recommend a bamboo set over it for the thermal regulating features alone and great value for the money.
